Dear 2021, Please Rescue Us!

A much needed 2020 wrap up

When 2020 first came around, I think we were all excited. It seemed like the perfect year for great things to happen. The beginning of a new decade.

However, it quickly took a turnaround and became a year of loss and loneliness, leaving us all scared. For many,  it was also a   big wake-up call, and with everything going on, it became impossible to run from our privileges. We had to face them. Issues of inequality and suffering landed  on the front page news despite the life long battle many people have experienced it first hand for centuries.

Change is needed. We must all do better. There is so much to learn and so much  still needs to happen.

All the little things we took for granted, the things we thought were safe suddenly became a thing of the past. Going out on date night, hanging out with friends, visiting our family members, and sharing a hug with loved ones. There is no normal anymore, and now more than ever, we all need one another.

So many people are scared for the future, feel isolated and alone in their suffering, and we need to take care of one another. We need to check in and make sure the people around us are doing okay. See if there is anything we can do to help them, and make sure they know we are here. We might not be able to share our love and care the usual way, but we are creative human beings and there are so many amazing ways to show our appreciation and love to let each other know we are not alone.

Personally, I got to know suffering, grieving, and loss this year all too closely. What was meant to be a story of love, became something entirely different. A difficult lesson in trust, a shattered heart, the kind of anger that can consume you, and a tiredness that still has not subsided.

Everything I  learned in therapy was sure to test me.  I had moments of  intense sadness , and I did not see a reason to keep fighting. But I believe all the lessons I  learned from working on my mind while suffering from depression and anxiety came in handy. The coping tools I  learned in therapy,  I get to bring them along with me for the rest of my  life. I highly recommend therapy. You do not have to experience a trauma to qualify for therapy. Anyone can go to   learn and grow and be able to apply the tools to anything you may  experience in the future.

With 2021 approaching, we are all left feeling so unsure. What will the year bring?  It is difficult to believe better days are coming with all that has happened in 2020 . Things  WILL settle down, and we  WILL adapt to some sort of new normal– however that might look. It will get better, and when it does, let us not forget the lessons we have learned. Let us appreciate  each other and not take anything for granted. We must continue growing and educating ourselves,  stand up for others unable to stand up for themselves, and remember small acts of kindness go a long way in everyday life.

As we wait this 2020  out, I wanted to share a couple of TV recommendations. I have been watching so many shows this year. Whenever I am in a dark place, I tend to give my mind a break from my own struggles by snuggling into the couch with a fluffy duvet and binge watch my favorite shows.

  • Lately I have been a sucker for dark thrillers, like Absentia.
  • I also decided to watch something a little more positive. I absolutely loved the Indian show MASABA MASABA. It is a mix between comedy and  chick-flick. Very relatable!

On that note, while we take a break to take in all that happened this year. We will see you in the new year with lots of plans and exciting new content.

All the best,
